This is a unique opportunity for students to challenge themselves, seek God, and serve their community with Jesus’ love. This course will include studying God’s Word on mercy, justice and being the hands, feet and heart of Jesus in the world. The basis for this course is built around Timothy Keller’s, Ministries of Mercy and Generous Justice. All students will need a bible and a journal or spiral notebook, a three ring binder for handouts, well as the book Do Hard Things by Harris (Christian) , 7 Habits for Highly Effective Teenagers by Covey (Secular) and the 7 Habits Workbook. Each month students will be required to read/or watch additional novels and movies (available from library) and report to the class on the literature they choose. They will also have the opportunity to work in groups as they research the issues people in our community face and complete projects based on that need. We will be going on several field trips to various organizations that work to make a difference in our community. This is a challenging class, but in the past students have found it fun and life changing!

Students will be required to have access to the internet for some of their research. The homework portion of this course will be 3-5 hours per week.  The outreach portion will be variable, as students begin to form the projects they feel called to work on. Field trips will be one day per month.

Some topics: homelessness, poverty, hunger, foster care, education, modern day slavery, and abortion,

Some possible field trips: Family Impact Center, Pregnancy Help Line, Ronald McDonald House, Grace Centers of Hope, Salvation Army, Love INC, Bountiful Harvest.  We will need some parent drivers and chaperones! Siblings will be welcome.

Participating students will be given a list of books, movies and websites to read and report on. I have looked through and read most of these. Many of the books are secular, some are from other denominations, religions, as we are learning to listen well to others in order to understand and love our neighbors well. Please be aware of this when helping your student select what they will be reading/watching.

Cost for each course is $250.00 per family.  This will include all materials. Some scholarships available.High School Mental Health Course with a Biblical Worldview- Ages 13 & Up
