High School Mental Health Course with a Biblical Worldview- Ages 13 & Up

Topics include:

Brain and Nervous System Development- How our brains affect our emotions, including our physical responses to emotions. How to regulate our brains, bodies and nervous systems (does not count for an anatomy credit)

God Given Heart Needs- How to meet those needs in healthy ways. This will include the National Christian Counselor Association’s Temperament Assessment for each student.

Emotions- we will explore how God designed emotions for our good. We will spend time giving vocabulary to what we feel as well as practical and Biblical ways to handle unhealthy emotions.

Identity & Purpose

Scripture - Our beliefs affect our behavior. When we experience strong emotions, it is important to have a foundation built on what is true in order to redirect our thoughts and behaviors.

1 Credit in Social Science - 1/2 Credit in Communications- 1/2 credit anatomy

3 Ring Binder with Looseleaf paper for assignments- Students will receive homework/handouts each week to keep in their binder for reference

Students will spend 5-6 hours a week outside of class for reading, writing, research projects, as well as group presentations. Depending on the class size, we may meet once a week online for discussion, questions, etc, so class time is spent on group work.

**Students will have some online videos to watch.
